Jessica Emerson

Getting information ready for a commission from Del, Kate and I ran through the old bios of Jessica, Tobias, and Daniel. Since Jess is relatively new with the drawing Kate wanted to sketch her again and came out with lovely ponytailed Jess ^_^

So here she is, the Weaponsmaster of DarkSpark and wife of Techie Daniel. This is a good day for her because she looks happy XD

He thinks he's hot...

But we know he's not.

Tobias Calicott, the asshole druggie playboy who plays a big part in Jessica's history and is a minor villain of our story. If you couldn't guess, he and Daniel don't get along...

Tobias' ethnicity is Lumina, so while you can't see it in these pics he does have the Lumina iris ring; his is yellow.

I got to put some of my color theory education to use here so as to make him as druggie/icky/skeezy/wannabe-playa looking as possible! Woo!

...ugh, he's so ickyyyy.

I've been bad.

I haven't posted in awhile. Mostly out of neglect, but getting back into the blogger swing. :wheeeeeeeee:

Been getting a lot of great Aboideau art work for special occasions and great friends while gearing up for our own personal overhaul of the story so we can start putting our own spin on the arts.

Both by Phoenixelement/ Amy Clark, were a birthday present to me from Kate with my boy Ian. He's a gambler and a cook, mostly of the later and uses his luck to find clues to the whereabouts of his kind. The necklace is from his Woven, Cade, that symbolizes what she thinks he is. Hope.

The second was of Daniel and Jessica Emerson. Jess love to snuggle or lie on Daniels back because of his wing down. (Angelics who are not full souled have a patch of down on their backs where wings would be.) If not on his back he could usually find her sprawled over him, he's a furnace, and she loves it. *L* But this is another favorite for her expression is just classic.

That's it for this post but more soon as we head into the holiday's ^__^

We return from the grave...with guest art. Yes, again.

It's been a while. Essentially, Kate got swallowed whole by another semester of classes and Tam by life at large. We'll try to be better. Really!

Come this winter we're going to be working on editing the written parts of Aboideau. A limited number of people (close friends and trusted peers first) will get to read those, but the hope is that in the coming year the serious work of illustrating Aboideau will commence!

In the meantime, here's some more guest art...

Right: Remember that awesome pic of Dreor by Amy Clark from way back when? Here's some quick-n-lazy flat coloring Kate slapped on it.

The Music/Playlist Post

Sooo...you know that thing people do sometimes where they build fake soundtracks for their stories or characters? Tam and I are guilty of that too. And you can listen to our guilt in the playlist player thingamajig below! Yayyy.

In the future, more songs are likely to be added to the list. Playlists for individual characters might also be added to this post, and we might also add our explanations of why the songs are on the list to begin with.

Standalone player

Enjoy!

Banner via Angie...

Done as a "Kate, calm yourself the hell down" sort of doodlery thing because I'd gotten way too cranky and couldn't concentrate past my own crankyness.

Anyway, this was fun... I found a way to paint faster than I'm used to, discovered Angelcita's complexion (yayyy), and experimented with the idea I've seen recommended of painting really loose in a very large scale, then shrinking the image down to get a clean, smooth, detailed look. This, for example, is actually twice the size seen here.

It could also make for part of a banner, perhaps. I dunno.

So here's what Angelcita's skin looks like close up, folks! It would be like this all over, not just her face. And lips and nose shape, in case you were wondering.

Guest art: Dreor from Amy...

Here is a really fun and excellent drawing of Dreor by Amy Clark (phoenix_element) that I adore because she handled the way Dreor should look...soft and curvy but still athletic and a fighter. The pose is a blast and those boot treads are just great!

Plus, you know, it's Dre gettin' her kickass on. That's ALWAYS a winner. lol

Guest Art: Rue and Ashani Commission

This next art was a commission to help out Amy a.k.a. Phoenix Element last month. I adore this couple very much and their old fashioned ways. Rue and Ashani are still in the early stages of their relationship, and have a loooong way to go, but its fun to see Rue be so affectionate and content when a good deal of his life was spent being hard working, responsible, and very much grumpy. *L*

I was going to have two separate headshots of the two, but after talking with Amy and wanting to give a gift to Kate as well came out with this lovely display of affection.

Guest art: Rue from Teph...

Here is a very nice, warm sketch of Rue that I very much like from Emma Hagan, aka Tephers!

So Ian's hair.

After a while and a lot of threats his hair style finally came into some sort of...finality. *L*

After taking the last headshot and working with the new face model, Kate was able to bring together the new hairstyle with a little bit of fun and ease. We are both happy because he has been on of the biggest pains with the whole hair bit (even more so than Daniel's fuzz) and we had to keep it at some length for Cade to run her hands through ^_^

Dreor expressions (2nd of 25)...

We are taking a quick break from all the guest art posts. Here's a recent sketch I did of Dre!

Confused Dre says, "Something is not right with this picture..." Quizzical. lol

(This post also harkens back to THIS ONE.) You can sort of tell I was running out of time to goof off and rushed by the time I'd gotten to her shirt. Oops. Also, I need to fix the line weight between her finger and her lips. Yikes.

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

In trying to get a better look for Ian, Kate has graciously fit him to the new face model Chris Vance (who's character Dr. Jack Gallagher from the Fox show M3ntal had some Ian-esc qualities, as she pointed out correctly).

Unfortunately from the past two years the main issue with my boy has been his hair. It's rather difficult to maintain and puts us both in a bit of a grouch mode. So soon he will have an attack of the scissors and a new hair do to compliment his goofy style..but for now let it be known that Ian's hair makes Kate grumpy.

Guest art: another couple Cades...

Here's some more lovely and fun guest art of Cade!

The first image is by Gaia Gandolfo and includes Odin! Though I'd imagined Cade as preferring to ride with little to no tack on Odin, this is just fine and I like the angle Gaia went with...

And the second image we have here is by Amy Clark again, this time with a barefoot Cade doing rune readings. Amy had to do some guesswork with Cade's runestones because I didn't have a proper ref of them, so I appreciate it and don't even care that they're not how they look in my head because it's so awesome. She handled my gal with grace and earthyness even for just lineart, which makes me so happy.

Guest Art: Cade and Ian

For this next installment a third picture by the lovely Davina of not only my Ian (with the hair from hell. It's being worked on now, honest.) but of Kate's Cade (and one of her animal kin).

This was the first couple of our world. Fortune's children, the Hushlorae, are nearly extinct, so finding another let alone creating a family is very special. They were thrown together under very ominous times, and even now they fight themselves and whats around them to try and make things work.

But no matter what, they are devoted to one another, and love each other very deeply.

This picture shows just that.
